On a beautiful September day in 2010, two cousins were making their way across the Knife’s Edge Trail on Mt. Katahdin. On the highest peak in Maine, they started talking about the many possibilities that lay ahead in each of their lives. Both Nicole Avery and Monica Swan had experienced major transition in their lives over the past five years including moves to Maine, career changes, loss of parents, and divorce. They were seeking something new to challenge them and bring excitement and joy back into their lives. And that is how Zone 3 Fitness began to take shape!
Nicole, a native of Maine who returned in 2005, had 20 years experience in development and management. The idea of building a business from scratch and sharing her personal experience with people who are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle was exhilarating. Marrying her business savvy skills and fitness ambitions seemed like a perfect career choice.
Monica also moved to Maine in 2005. After spending many holidays and family vacations here throughout her childhood, she knew this was the environment she was seeking to grow her own fitness business. And the opportunity to complement her intense training schedule with kayaking, snowshoeing, and trail running was an added bonus.
On the long ride home from Katahdin that day, the vision of Zone 3 Fitness came to life: a fun and motivating training center where busy people find everything they need to achieve their personal fitness goals.
While Nicole and Monica share the same vision, they bring different talents and experiences to the business. Monica has built a successful practice as a personal trainer and licensed massage therapist. She will develop the Zone 3 Fitness programs, infusing new challenges and techniques each month. Nicole will be using her management and marketing experience to manage the daily operations of Zone 3 Fitness.
They are using their STRENGTHS to BALANCE the business in order to have the ENDURANCE to be successful for many, many years!
